Writing, even though it’s pen and paper, keyboard and screen, is–in my opinion–a multidisciplinary, textured thing. It’s about reading, listening to music, looking at the world around us and seeing how story is everywhere. I offer two types of school visits:
These are one hour, high-energy sessions that mix humour with writing, story with music, and bring a sense of play to the serious business of writing. Audience size varies and can include mixed ages/grades. (After the first half hour, the K-2 grades are dismissed, and the remainder of the presentation is focused on the older students.) Smaller schools are welcome to invite another school to share in the cost of the presentation.
School based writing sessions are curriculum based and are differentiated so each student can be successful at his/her level. The workshops marry creativity with discipline, structure with flexibility. Please see here for a breakdown of workshops offered.
It was clear from the beginning what a good rapport you had with the kids and it was just a fantastic job from start to finish.
