Wrestling with the sequel of True Grime. There’s SO MUCH I want to do with this series and my ideas (I fear) are ahead of my talent and skill.  I woke up this morning at 5:00 AM, too anxious to fall back asleep and decided to just dive in.

I have a manuscript, but I know I have to trash 95% of it (which is why I’ve been putting off edits). But this morning as I began to rework the characters and scenes, to delete the pages and edit the dialog¦I felt a sense of completeness, of excitement and renewed energy¦

I have loads of work ahead of me. Long days and longer nights, cancelled coffees with friends and restricted home time, but that doesn’t diminish the excitement I feel, and I think that’s what makes you a writer–not being published or book tours (that will come soon enough to anyone who perseveres in this industry).

It’s the challenge of writing, of translating a fictive dream into a tangible object, it’s the willingness to try and fail and try again.

I think that’s what makes you a writer.
