The cool thing about being a writer is that every experience is potential story information. For example, volunteering for casino for the Young Alberta Book Society yesterday, this is what I learned:

1) There is A LOT of ceremony/rituals/protocols when bringing chips to the table–you have to verify monies, watch the chip

s being stocked…not to mention where & how the chips are stacked, are very important.

2) The naughty gamblers aren’t (as I think, most of us suspect) young males–at least, being naughty isn’t reserved for the

m…there are quite a few grandmas & grandpas who’ll get coal at Christmas for their casino behaviours…

and sometimes, they do really gross things as security is leading them away (!!)

3) Volunteering for 8 hours at a casino on behalf of any charity will raise (on average) around $2200/person.

So why is volunteering good? Because you help out a charity, get a behind the scenes look at procedures, make friends, and learn exciting things!
